    1. Công: Khát vọng giáo dục, Chiến lược học tập đồng đẳng và tổ chức vì sự thay đổi xã hội của người Điếc Công là một trong những giáo viên NNKH TP.HCM đầu tiên của tôi, và hiện vẫn dạy tôi học. Những câu chuyện Công chia sẻ với tôi cho thấy những ảnh hưởng của hệ tư tưởng ngôn ngữ đối với việc thiết kế hệ thống giáo dục, khát vọng học hành cũng như các sáng kiến thay đổi xã hội của người Điếc1. Những câu chuyện này cũng minh họa bản chất của việc xã hội hóa người Điếc và các chiến lược học tập đồng đẳng nhằm thúc đẩy việc tiếp thu ngôn ngữ tự nhiên, bản sắc ngôn ngữ xã hội của người Điếc và sự hình thành chính trị xã hội của người Điếc. Khi Công lên mười tuổi, bố mẹ cho anh vào học tại trường Xã Đàn, Hà Nội. Tại thời điểm năm 1988, Xã Đàn là trường duy nhất dành cho học sinh Điếc ở thủ đô2. Sau ba năm học, cha mẹ Công không hài lòng với kết quả học tập của anh. Công giải thích: “Thầy cô giáo ở trưởng ít dùng ký hiệu, chủ yếu nói tiếng Việt để giảng bài.
